With help from his generous friends all over the world, Yuji Igari has been able to be meaningfully involved in Japan’s recovery process, providing music therapy to individuals with developmental disabilities. Also, kudos to Professor Ron Borczon and the CSUN music therapy students for donating instruments to Igari MTRC! CSUN, you make me proud!

Yuji has been a whirlwind of activity! Besides the music therapy sessions and lessons that he provides, he is also deeply involved with Commuon the Big Band, an integrated music ensemble with musicians of all walks of life. On the Light of Hope blog, he mentioned that the group is working on a rendition of Earth, Wind, and Fire’s “Brazilian Rhyme.” Can’t wait to hear it! Today marks the 3 month anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Music therapist Nami Yoshihara had some staggering statistics: 15,405 people are confirmed dead, 8,095 are missing, and 90,109 are in evacuation shelters. There’s so much more work to do in Japan.
